Over the last twenty-five years, allowing for the usual peaks and troughs and day-to-day vicissitudes, the trend for the gold price has been relentlessly up.

Indeed, gold is now worth more than ten times what it was worth back in the early 2000s. What other investments can match that sort of run? Some tech companies, to be sure. A couple of very successful mining exploration companies, and of course bitcoin.

But equities in general, or other commodities? Not so much. Even real estate can’t quite match that kind of performance.
